Archer is both a lnfn and somewhat - medievally - militaristic, so I'd avoid it without a backward glance.
I would expect anyone called Archie to have Archibald as his full name. Not a name I enjoy; the bald bit puts me right off. But Archie is pleasant.

You must not have enjoyed Robin Hood, Lord of the Rings (Legolas), Narnia, or Hunger Games if you have something against archers. I agree that occupation names and last names are overdone, but as occupations names go, archers at least have lots of positive representation.

In works of fiction, I've got nothing against invasions of alien spacecraft ... in real life, however ..;)
