[Opinions] Beyoncé
Hi !!!
WDYTO it as given name?
It is almost and obviously tied with the singer Beyoncé Knowles.
But Beyoncé has also a melodious sound and there is something from New Orleans in it that makes it very fascinating.

I'm originally from New Orleans and lived there for several decades. There is nothing about the name Beyoncé that has anything to do with New Orleans. Neither Beyoncé nor her parents are from there.
As others said, her name is based on her mother's surname, Beyincé. Her mother's ancestors in France apparently spelled it Boyancé.

Totally off topic but I love New Orleans!
like buoyancy ...
Which isn't a bad concept, just not for a person. The whole thing makes me think of one of the Ramona quimby books where Ramona keeps getting in trouble for pulling the curls of another little girl in class. Boin!

I'm not sure if I'd like it if the singer didn't exist. I had never heard the name before the singer so I didn't have any associations.
The only thing I think is weird is that it's spelled Beyoncé but everyone pronounces it with the accent on the "on" syllable. Why is there an é if it doesn't do anything?

it does do something ...
It lets you know you are supposed to say the last e, and that the name is three syllables and not Bee-YONS.

The é gives it the extra syllable on the end... the “ay” sound.
I think the é is there because it was in her mother's maiden name which is... Beyincé I think? But also to let people know her name is BEH-YONS-AY rather than BEH-YONS lol.
The name is made up. I think.
Beyoncé is a last name
Her mother's maiden name.
Her mother's maiden name.
Trying to separate it from the person: I like it better than the similar-sounding Bianca, but I don't like it enough to ever use in real life.
My neighbors named their dog Beyonce - great name for a pet! She's sweet but not the best behaved, so we hear "Beyonce! Get in the house!" a lot.

I’ve honestly never liked it. I know it has special meaning for the Knowles family, and I don’t begrudge them the name, but I hate it. It’s just a weird, random collection of sounds that rhymes with fiancé. The “yonce” sound is particularly ugly. I feel like all the positive attributes people are listing off describe the person, not the name, because they’re tied together in peoples’ minds. If the name had come to be known because it was the name of a famously trashy person, like a Jersey Shore cast member or that “cash me ousside” girl, we’d all hate it, I’m sure of it.
Well I don't really care for Beyonce as a person all that much. She and her husband seem very "say one thing do another thing" typical Hollywood elite-types, and the whole fanbase around her is weird! But I still like her name lol.
Not a fan, of either the name or the singer. It doesn't sound very attractive to me, like it's the name of a bouncy rubber ball or something. And it is exclusively linked with Knowles, and anytime a name is so singularly attached to one person, it's not a good idea.
It's even worse than Elvis that way. The only name I can think of offhand that is similar in exclusiveness is JonBenet.

I've always loved it. I like how her mom changed the spelling... it has a sort of obscure-name-from-a-weird-old-French-novel quality about it. Like Aziyadé or Giroflée. Agreed about the New Orleans quality too.
This got me thinking about maiden names as FNs... it's tough to pull off especially for a girl.

I agree, although Beyoncé doesn't really strike me aesthetically - in principle it's neat.
It's like Dashiell. (I don't care for that either, but whatever, it's just personal taste)

I think it sounds nice, and I like that its usage is connected to music. It's also memorable and most people know how to spell it.
I don't really like that it originates from a surname, but oh well, lots of names do.

Beyonce is a beautiful name. It does sound bouncy and melodious. But it is her name, and should remain her name.
It'll remain her name regardless of other people having it (thousands of people already do).
