I knew two Aileen people. One pronounced it like Eileen; the spelling was because her family had a tradition of names starting with A. She had a sister Annette, for instance. She was the mother of a school friend. The other Aileen is my generation, with no Scottish links that I ever heard of, and she pronounced it AYleen, where Ay rhymes with Ray and May.

I really don't like most -een and -ine names, and these are no exceptions. (The only real exception I can think of right now is Justine.)
