[Opinions] Re: Sibset from my family tree
in reply to a message by Uilos
I've never been an Amanda fan; it seems the most modern of the lot, though - way ahead of its time. I understand the use of Mariana, but in English I love Marianne and would use it.
Nikolai is the best version of Nicholas IMO; Maximus is very ambitious, but Max is good.
Daniel is another name I'd use; Nikanor is gloriously over the top!
If I spoke the right kind of language, Johan would be my preferred form of John. Marcellus is OK in the middle.
Cecilia ... -a ending again. I love Cecily, but Cecilia is too fussy and frilly. Kunigunda is wondrous! Lucky lady.
Karl is too ubiquitous and Polykarpus is too exotic. OK, so I'm hard to please ...
I like Anders much better than Andrew, Andre etc; unfortunately in Afrikaans it means 'or else' or 'different'! Wigilius is a thing of wonder. Please tell us anything you may know about it!

Wigilius seems to be a form of Vigilius, which was the name of a 6th century Pope, and is derived from the same root as "vigil".
