[Opinions] Torchwood
There's a spinoff series of Doctor Who on UK TV at the moment (not sure if it's aired in any other countries), called Torchwood. It's made by BBC Wales, and is set in Cardiff, so a lot of the characters have stereotypically Welsh names. WDYT to some of the ones who've been on it so far?
Rhys
Gwen (ln Cooper)
Bethan (prn. beh-THAN, with a lot of emphasis on 2nd syllable)
Carys
Ianto (yan-toe) (ln Jones)
Owen

I like Gwen and Ianto. I always thought Bethan was pronounced like Bethany minus the y. Not digging the Beth-Anne pronunciation so much.

It is pronounced that way in England- the Welsh sometimes do put the emphasis on different syllables, for some reason.

The Welsh put different Emphasis on different Syllables because they have a totally different language to English.:)
Some letters of the alphabet have different sounds to them in Welsh when compared to English just as they do in other languages.

Actually, Welsh people speak English too. A lot of them speak Welsh as well, but every Welsh person I've ever known (from both North and South Wales) primarily speaks English.

Yes but you said
- the Welsh sometimes do put the emphasis on different syllables, for some reason.-And that is reason, yes Most Welsh people speak English too but they speak it differently from me, they have lovely regional accents like many area's in the UK this is due to their heritage which is the reason they put Emphasis on different Syllables its an inherited speech pattern, an accent .
But the main point is that Most Welsh names came into being when Welsh was the most widely spoken language in Wales.
I am finding it difficult to explain exactly what I mean and hope you will be able to understand what I am trying to say.
