Gia , Gia...where were you when I was young and single and lookin for a girl who really dug cars? (I ultimately fell for one who drove a purple Gremlin...love is blind!)
Yer spot-on about
Carroll Shelby and his many contributions to speed and handling. But let's not forget his piece de resistance: the COBRA!
In the early 60s, the man took the nondescript Brit AC roadster and dropped a Ford V-8 into it, followed by bigger Ford V-8s. The Cobra dominated everything else on the road (and some famous tracks) for decades, and is still being built today in Britain under license. Only the Dodge Viper (and the very latest super-Vette) come close to the power and spirit of
Shelby 's beast!
I've owned more Fords than Chevys; however, today's Mustang GT is no road match for the Camaro Z-28. But PLEASE don't lump the Mustangs of the 70's in with the good machines they were in the 60's! Only the 70-71 and 79 Mustangs wwere worthy of the name; the early 70s were dominated by heavy, hideous blimps, and most of the 70s were devoted to the Pinto-based Mustang II ("Mustang II, Boredom Zero!" the jingle went -- puke!!)
Anyway, I'm impressed by yer knowledge, and it's nice to find a topic on here that even GUYS can get into!
