[Opinions] Re: Annette/Marlys
in reply to a message by Kris
I think it just depends how important it is to you to honor them both with names.. if it's not so important that you are determined to do so, then it's not important. You might have only one daughter. I guess I'd ask myself, what would I rather my own name was like (or, guessing what I'd want, based on the best I could imagine what it would be like to be the child). In some families I'd guess it means tons to have ancestor names, and fashionable or pretty names might seem indulgent and superficial. In others, it means not so much -- like in my own family, a middle name from the family would have been really wonderful and special, but a first and middle name could have been a 'bit much' .. since my family's just another middle class white family, not one of big achievers, close family ties, or great importance in society - and the name would have been dated and not 'fit in' so well with my peers. So what I am trying to say here is, I think it just depends what feels natural and special to you.Marlys fits in pretty well though, I think, with current fashions, without seeming trendy at all.. for whatever that's worth.I pronounce Annette "uh-NET".Personally I'd pick Annika Marlys and say Annika honors Annette, since both are diminutives of Anne. YMMV. - chazda
