Frankish

Frankish (or Old Franconian) was the Germanic language spoken by the Franks, from about the 4th to 8th centuries.

The northern varieties of Frankish were the ancestors of Old Dutch. The varieties spoken in the southwest were eventually replaced by the Vulgar Latin of the native population (see Old French). In the east, Old High German came to dominate, though Frankish was merged into the German dialect spectrum.
