Meaning uncertain. Possibly a combination of Old Norse áss meaning either "ridge" or "Æsir god", and ló "meadow, clearing". Oslo is the capital city of Norway. It was previously known as Christiania up until 1925, but the name Oslo existed before then (first recorded as Ánslo in the 11th century).
