Meaning & History

Latinized form of Greek Λαοδίκεια (Laodikeia), which was derived from the Greek name Laodike and the feminine suffix -εια (-eia). This was the name of numerous Hellenistic cities including Laodicea on the Lycus, which is mentioned in the Book of Revelation. It was named in honour of Antiochos II's wife Laodike.
