From Vietnamese Hà Nội, which is from Sino-Vietnamese 河內 (Hà Nội). The name is derived from Chinese 河內 (Hénèi) meaning "inside the river", from 河 (hé) meaning "river" and 內 (nèi) meaning "inside, interior", so named because of the area's location within the Red River. This is the name of the capital city of Vietnam.
