Meaning & History

From the name of the medieval ruling dynasty, the Connacht, later Connachta, meaning “descendants of Conn”, referring to the legendary king Conn of the Hundred Battles.

This is the name of one of the four provinces, formerly Gaelic kingdoms, of Ireland. It contains the counties Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.
