Ha, I always wondered about that name. Irulan is the Imperial Princess in Frank Herbert's "Dune". Apparently she was named after her mother Empress Anirul. The name could be made up but many names in Dune are real (Jessica, Paul) or derived from real names (Josifa, Hasimir).
