While I really don't like the name Ava, for some reason I love Arva. What do you think of Arva, or do you prefer Ava?

Arva sounds like a sick dog's bark to me. Sorry. Actually, I think that's funny - still sorry about that. I don't care for Ava (I prefer Eva), but Ava is so much better than Arva.

I like Ava, but Arva doesn't sound appealing to me at all, to be honest. It reminds me of "larva."

I'm assuming Arva's a fem. form of Arvo, which means "value, worth" in Finnish.

I'm not particularly crazy about Arva, but it could definitely grow on me. It appeals to my penchant for unusual names, yet doesn't sound too out there. And, like you implied, it makes a good alternative for the lovely-but-popular Ava.
