[Opinions] Sumarrós WDYT?
An acquaintance said this about the reason she chose her daughter's name. She's Icelandic, and the name means "summer rose". I like it a lot, and I love the story behind it!
"The name Sumarrós is from my great grandmothers sister. When I was about 2 months pregnant with Sumarrós, the "original" Sumarrós died. My mother and everybody always called her Rósa (which is also my mothers name) and they really thought that that was her name. Almost nobody knew until she was dead that her real name was Sumarrós. I heard it, and fell in love with it. I somehow knew that I was pregnant with a girl (dreams that I had dreamt and my mother told me so) and I fell in love with the name and decided that if infact I was going to give birth to a girl, I would name her Sumarrós. It was just a bonus that her birthday was the 14th of June, summer time."

I love it! and the story is really neat
I'd feel awkward using it though as I don't have the heritage, it's still going on my list though :)

Hm, I like the meaning and the story behind it. But how do you pronounce it?

Pronunciation
The /u/ is like a French /u/ (or a German /ü/ or Danish /y/), the /a/ as in "car", and the /ó/ as in "so". The /s/ and /m/ are as in English, and the /r/ is trilled and, since it's doubled and between two vowels, lengthened like the /k/ in "bookkeeper."
Stress is always on the first syllable in Icelandic, but since this is a compound name I'm not positive whether it's SU-mar-rós or SU-mar-RÓS. I lean toward the first, as it is a compound word and I'm pretty sure it's therefore treated as one.
Plus, I like the way it sounds better *grin*.

Thanks!
Well, the pronunciation's kind of pretty to me. But unfortunately it reminds me of "sumo", as in "sumo wrestler": http://snipurl.com/cvem.
