I'm no Portuguese speaker, but I've had many business contacts who are. I believe the diphthong -ao (w/tilde over "a") is pronounced with a nasalized "n" at the end. Therefore "saint" ("sao" w/tilde) comes across like "song", not "saO". As in "Sao Paolo"...
