Since it's a biblical (Hebrew) name like
Michael
, and not a French one like
Michelle
, it should logically be a K sound and in English it sounds exactly like
Michael
, which is probably one reason for its rarity.

I have a friend named
Michal
. She pronounces it
Me-Chal
the "CH" is raspy like in Chanukah.
