Hm... At first I didn't like it at all, but now it's grown on me slightly, at least to the point of tolerance.
But as with all place names that are, well, really "place namey", I prefer that the family have a legitimate connection to the place. I don't like place names when they're picked simply because "it sounds pretty"; that's just silly imo.
I think Kansas sounds pretty unisex, but the kid would need a 100% male or female mn imo to clarify the sex.
