My parents went out to a concert on Friday (I know, as usual I'm reporting late :-p).
The singer was, to quote Mom, "a Black chick named Shamika Thompson." She sang jazz, apparently, and even got her song played on the radio "just like those girls with the flat bellies." (Shamika was a little overweight, you see.) All in all, Shamika sounded like a really cool person.
Although I don't like the name Shamika at all, I thought it went well with the ln Thompson. And
Mika by itself is nice imo.
EDIT: Upon re-reading this, I guess it might look like Mom said the "flat bellies" comment. She didn't; Shamika did. But I don't quite know how to fix the sentence, so I'll just leave a separate note here.
*Note that Mom is
100% non-racist. But she dislikes overboard PCness over certain racial terms like "Black" and talks matter-of-factly and rather "slangy". So that's why she described Shamika the way she did. I just thought I should explain that, lest I get yelled at here.
