BabyZone.com (no comment, for once)lists it as a French name deriving from a place in southwest France dating to pre-Roman times.

I searched, and I got two meanings: 1) French Place 2) Water.
Dax also happens to be Frankfurt's answer to Dow Jones, but I digress.
Then there's the Cac, which sounds like something your Footsie squishes into in a French pasture.
As our friend Jarra-Si would say, ROR!
Best as I can tell it came form the town in southern france, as mentioned above. Some say it might be Greek. I keep wondering too.
