I don't care for the name because I don't find it masculine. I know of no movie that used that name, and even if I did, it wouldn't dissuade me from the name. I don't let character associations bother me. I prefer the spelling Malachi, though.Edit: Spelling.

Really I always found Malachi maybe a little too masculine, strange. O_o---------------------------------------------------------------------
