[Facts] Meredia
In Lucy Sullivan is getting married, by Marian Keyes, there is a female character named Meredia.
The character is very obese, but the name can't be derivated (in principle) from Meridia, the weight loss drug, because it was approvated in Nov 1997 and the book is from 1996.
I was thinking about Meredia as variant of Meredith, perhaps a variant made by Keyes for her character, or a made-up name (also by Keyes), based in some word related with concepts as big, weight... perhaps myriad.
Does somebody have any clue?
Thank you very much.

Perhaps it comes from the Latin meridianus, meaning "midday" (from which we also get the English word meridian)?

ETA: Argh, don't mind me! I somehow misread Meredia as Meridia. That E makes the connection a lot less likely.
