Hm, I'm having trouble getting past the way it appears to rhyme "siren." (Assuming it's prn MEE-ren, which is still a little clunky to me) However, if I met someone named that I'd like it better than Miriam. It's not unattractive, just doesn't really strike me the right way.
Marit - whether I like it depends on how I'm required to pronounce it. If the stress is on syllable 2, or the last syllable is "eeet," it's uncomfy for me. Otherwise, MAR-it or MAYR-it is nice. I still prefer Margaret ... but for someone else's kid, I'm neutral between the two.

I'm pronouncing it MIR-een
Mir like in Mira. It's a bit uncomfy for me to say, which is why I'm liking Mirena a bit better (though it's so close to Marina)
ma-REET is how I'm pronuncing Marit. It actually sounds better to me, but that might be because of my accent - which is slightly Midwestern. Scandivian names tend to work better with me than others.
