[Opinions] Deaf-blind triplets from Dr Phil
http://deafness.about.com/od/deafblind/a/dbtriplets.htmHere is a link to a story about a family that was on Dr Phil. They have an older daughter Sarah and the triplets are Emma, Sophie, and Zoe. All way too popular and common for my taste (except for Sophie, I still love that name).
And to save you asking, they are congenitally blind and they are deaf from the drugs they were given as babies.
Also, the story that the mom tells in this article is very different from the one on the Dr Phil show. On the show the triplets don't seem to be getting special education of any kind, I never saw anybody try to communicate with one of them, and that older sister gets totally ignored. I really hope that the article is more accurate and that this family gets some help!

All the names are gorgeous, and I don't care about popularity so long as the name is a nice, legit, and has been used for a long time.My only quibble is that Zoe seems a little short when compared to the names of the other sisters. Also, the double -a and -ee endings are a little matchy, but so subtly that it seems to me that might've been a coincidence.

I *heart* Zoebut Sophie and Zoe are way too close for me.Sarah and Emma are nice enough, but rather boring.

Wow that's an incredible story.
I like their names actually. Especially Zoe. Sophie and Zoe rhyme, though. I wouldn't have picked two names in a sibset that rhymed, but oh well.

this hits a little close to home...seeing as I'm deafblind too. I'm like Sophie. I can see color and light but not much else. My hearing imparment is relativily minor (I have 60% of hearing in my right ear and 80% in my left) but combindind with legal blindness its very hard to learn. I have to always worry that one day my hearing could go, due to the type of hearing lose I have. my eyesight will gradually get worse too. I can use hearing aids but I can't get a cocular implant. that is a blessing for them. But there is nothing they can do about my eyesight or theirs. As far as names go, althougth all are very popular, I like them together. even Sarah.

I hope this doesn't sound rude, as it is not intended that way. I am curious about any help you would need with the computer. Do you have someone read for you online or are you able to see enough that you can do it yourself? Also, when you type do you use braille keys or can you see the keys of the keyboard as well?
If you can see well enough to use the computer then my next question would be: Do you know how those who are completely blind use the computer? Do they have someone read/type for them or do they use some sort of readback system on their computer matched with braille?Again, I am sorry if this sounds ignorant...it is not meant that way and I really am just trying to understand those who are deaf-blind.

It's not rude at allbut I use a program on the computer that reads what on the screen as well as make it a lot bigger. I use a regular keyboard, but I can use braille keys too. although on the computer I normally use can't do that. totally blind people can use the same programs. as there are different levels of vision lose there are different programs to fit what they need. for instance I use both magnification and speech because I sometime miss something when I'm looking but I'll catch it when I hear it. totally blind people use a program called Jaws that just talks, and they learn something called Key commands that can get them around without using the mouse. I'm going to post a Q and A about me in the lounge today. do you mind if I copy and paste your questions in there? if so please tell me. if you have any more questions feel free to ask over there. or you can always PM me.

Go ahead and post it...Your reply was very informative and I will probably pop over to the lounge to see what other people ask. Who knows, I may come up with more questions for you!
Thanks a bunch.

SOme of the names are too popular and Zoe's doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of them.I hope the intervernor that Dr. Phil provides manages to help the triplets and maybe get Sarah more attention from her parents as well.

Ho hum. Looks like they just ran through the top 20 or so list and picked randomly.Heh, your subject line sounded rather ominous: "Deaf-blind Triplets from Dr. Phil." Kind of in the same league as "Bloodthirsty Toddlers from Hell." I'd like to see some bloodthirsty toddlers with cookie-cutter names like those. lol
