Hi Patty
I am not too sure if there is a Greek name day for Daphne.
However, please tell your priest that under no circumstances does the Greek Orthodox church have the right not to christen a child with a name that has no saintly association. I think there is just a prohibition with
This was the case up to a few years ago, and has resulted in a "Greek name holocaust" -- most Greeks are now called George, John and Maria as a result. But Daphne is a beautiful name, and no priest has the right to deny it to anyone. And if your priest does not agree, tell him thet the Greek Prime Minister's wife's name is Daphne, and ask him if he feels about that ;)

PSI think the Greek church still has a prohibition to baptize kids with the wonderful names of Nero and Diocletian -- but all other Greek names are absolutely kosher.

Greek name daysAs far as I can tell, there isn't a Greek name day for Daphne. (The name does have a French name day in October.) However, there is a Greek name day in March for Laurentiou which has the same meaning as Daphne. (Frankly, I find it a little strange because Laurentiou is a Latin-based name.)Is is possible that your daughter could have a baptismal name with a similiar meaning while retaining her original/legal name? I did find a website that has an email address you can write to about saint names.http://www.in2greece.com/english/saints/saints.htm

I am getting confirmed in the greek orthodox church on sunday (in 3 days) and am in need of a saint name, either close to my first name which is brock or my middle name allan. If you could possibly help at such short notice this would be greatly appreciated.thankyoubrock
