[Surname] Re: ethnic origin of malarsie
It looks French to me but I can't find it as a French surname or place name, though a fair number of French surnames begin with "Mal".
Here's some wild speculation; in Sweden there is a lake called Malar (Mälar), and the Swedish for lake is sjo (sjö). If Mälarsjö existed as a surname (and I've no proof that it does) it would likely undergo change in an English-speaking environment.
