[Opinions] Darla
Opinions on Darla? I've heard the name before but it never really made an impression on me until I saw a cute little girl named Darla on TV the other day. Now it's grown on me. I think it's very cute and feminine. What would you expect a Darla to be like? Some people have told me the name Darlene sounds "hick-ish", would you say the same for Darla?
Also, in which order do you like:
Darla, Darlene, Dahlia?
TIA

Sounds kind of air-head-ish to me, plus reminds me of the less-than-wonderful characters from "The Little Rascals" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". :b
Ugh. I really dislike ths name, as well as Dreama, Starla, Oceane/Oceana, and similar names. I know they are real names, but they seem too, I can't quite put my finger on it...
I just think of the Little Rascals. I can't get past that it.
Darla does nothing for me. In my mind, I have two very different images attached to the name. First would be Darla Dimple, the villain in the animated film Cats Don't Dance, who's a pretty explicit combination of Shirley Temple and Norma Desmond (the crazy main character of Sunset Boulevard). Second would be the drug-addled single mother in the film The Crow. Not good stuff.
Darlene strikes me as unattractive, though I know a woman whose name is pronounced dar-LYNN (I'm not sure how she spells it), and she's such a fab person that I dig her name.
Of your three, Dahlia's my favourite by far. It's a name I've been fond of for years now.

can't stand it
I've been mistaken for a Darla many times. When I would answer the phone at work saying "This is Starla" it did sound a lot like Darla.
I picture a Darla as being a redneck girl in Daisy Duke shorts and a halter top with dyed blonde hair and way too much makeup. A Darlene is the same, only over forty and running to fat. Cant' stand Dahlia either, it just sounds snooty.

Darla reminds me of the bratty little girl in Finding Nemo.
