Yes it is, denoting descent from a man named Ghevond, apparently the Greek name Leonidas. L in other languages sometimes becomes GH in Armenian, e.g., Nikoghos (Nicholas), Baghdasar (Balthazar). Then a V tends to be inserted between E and O, e.g., Gevorg (George), Levon (Leon, with an L which, contrarily, remains an L).
