The most unusual name I've come across in real life (meaning the name of an actual person I knew of) was Breege. It was the name of a girl I went to high school with. I wasn't friends with her, so I never was able to ask her how she came by such an unusual name. It's pronounced Breej, with a long e. So what do you think of it?

I don't care for it at all. When I first glanced at it quickly I thought it said Beagle!

What an unattractive sound. :-/ Could it have just been short for Brigitte? I'm hoping... It reminds me of how Kathie Lee Gifford had that annoying way of calling Regis Philbin "Reeeeeeeeege" and sticking a "B" in front of it. :b

Breege is an anglicised form of the Irish Brid (pronounced Breej), a short form of Bridget. I've heard it a couple of times over here (Scotland), I think it's usually chosen by people of Irish descent and Roman Catholics. I can't say I really like it, I much prefer Bridget.
