[Opinions] Luke
WDYT of Luke on its own? I don't really like Lucas, but I tend to think of Luke as being NNy, but I like the sound.I would also appreciate combo suggestions with names other than what is on my PNL, though feel free to use it as inspiration. Thanks in advance! :)

Luke is nice enough, but I don't like Lucus at all.

I love Luke! I don't feel it's nicknamey at all. I agree with Pink Princess, who said it sounds more mature than Lucas. I think it's a fantastically sexy name. I don't hear 'puke,' it doesn't remind me of lukewarm anything, and the Star Wars connection is no stronger than the Biblical one, imo.I do think it's a bit easier to pair it with a longer mn than a shorter one; and you can't really pair it with a mn that starts with K or hard C (or L, for that matter). I like it with surnamey mn's, myself. I have a few ideas; my personal faves have *:Luke Aleksei *
Luke Alton
Luke Andrew
Luke Austin *
Luke Bartholomew
Luke Benedict *
Luke Broderick
Luke Chandler
Luke Dalton *
Luke Daniel
Luke Elias
Luke Emerson
Luke Fletcher
Luke Flynn *
Luke Holden
Luke Julian
Luke Lincoln
Luke Malcolm
Luke Marshall *
Luke Nicholas
Luke Nikolai *

I like Luke. It's solid on its own; I know a few and they're good guys. I find Lucas more elegant, but you aren't necessarily going for elegant.

I feel the same. I still like Lucas, of course, but I just find Luke to be so simplistically gorgeous. Also, if I were to use Luke it would be honoring a very close friend of mine. I find the name positively beautiful. Here's some combos. I put a * next to the ones that I really like, even if they're fairly weird.Luke Dimitri
Luke Desmond
Luke Elijah*
Luke Elwood
Luke Emerson

I really hate nicknames given as full names, but Luke doesn't sound nicknamey to me. It's a name in and of itself that can stand on its own two feet, not a nickname for Lucas. I love it. If I hadn't had to name my son after his father, I would have called him either Maxwell or Luke.

I think Luke is fine as a full name.

Luke can definitely stand on its own, what with the Bible and everything...but I really don't like it. There are just too many drawbacks in my mind- the whole Skywalker thing, plus it rhymes with puke (and really the whole "uke" sound is just unattractive to my ears), and all the Lukes I've known have been beefcake cheeseballs (with one adorable little "Lukey" being the exception!). Lucas is no better, all I hear is mucus. I do however, like Luca and also Isla's suggestion of Lucien.Hmmm, as far as combos go though, how about-
Luke Lawrence
Luke Hawthorne
Luke Marcel
Luke Dashiell
Luke Diggory
Luke Joshua
Luke Terence
Luke Thomas
Luke Milton

I like Luke very much. I have a crush on one at the moment, actually :-p I alternate between liking Luke / Lucas best, but today ... definitely Luke. How about ...Luke Edmund
Luke Harlan
Luke Tiernan
Luke JeremiahAhh ... It's a toughie for mns, isn't it? I always find that with one-syllable names.

I rather like Luke. Sadly, I probably wouldn't use it simply because I associate it with a character in a story I'm writing. As much as I like the name, and the character, I probably couldn't use it.
From your PNL:Luke August
Luke Henry
Luke SimonDominic Luke
Oliver Luke
Asher Luke
Others:Damian Luke
Stephen Luke
Kevin Luke
Francis Luke

I love, love, love Luke. On its own, I feel it's gotten too popular, though (and I can't use it because it's the name of my sister's cat she's had for ten years :-/). But I still love it on its own, or as a nn for Luka or Lucian (both of which I love even without the nn Luke, actually). I don't care for Lucas at all. Luke makes me think of 'puke' slightly, but Lucas almost always makes me think of 'mucus'. :b Some Luke combos you might like:
Luke Everett
Luke Ephraim
Luke Elias
Luke Emil
Luke Ellis (sorry, I have a thing for E names, apparently)
Luke Adrian
Luke Montgomery
Luke Wesley
Luke Vincent
Luke Preston
Luke Raphael
Luke Mitchell

Luke's a name in its own right. I mean, old St. Luke himself went by it and nothing else, right? :)
I don't care for the name, it just sounds ugly to me. Also makews me think of lukewarm and puke and Luke Duke.

Luke is quite popular here on it's own. I don't think of it as a nickname at all and to me Lucas sounds really stuck up. Same with Mark / Marcus.
On it's own Luke has really grown on me recently. It's a difficult one for flowing middle names though, I think it does tend to work better as a middle name itself, but here's some suggestions:
Luke Samuel
Luke Robert
Luke William
Luke Benjamin
Luke Nicholas
Luke Joshua
Luke James
Luke Michael
Luke Richard
Luke Malcolm
Luke Oliver
Luke Thomas

I think Luke can stand on its own. Having a gospel associated with the name gives it credibility.Luke Matthias (too gospel-y, perhaps?)
Luke Damian
Luke Nathaniel
Luke Alexander
Luke Elias
Luke Sebastian
Luke Andrew
Luke Anatole
Luke Theodore
Luke Alphonse
Luke Daniel
Luke Thomas
Luke Antonin
Luke Jordan
Luke MorganNot as easy to combine as I would have thought, at least for me. Good luck and be sure to let us know if you like anyone's suggestion(s). Thanks.
