[Opinions] Re: Elah.
in reply to a message by Siri
I like Elah (and also Ela) pronounced the same as Ella. To me it's obvious that it's a Hebrew name that just happens to be pronounced the same as Ella, but non-namesnerds might think it was a creative attempt at varying Ella.
I don't like EE-la, it sounds like a strange feminisation of Eli to me.
Sabra is alright but I think of cactuses for some reason. Sidra is nms sound-wise, and Thisbe's pronunciation is counter-intuitive and I think of thistles. So I guess none of those are really my style lol.

I've also seen Ellah, which is supposedly Scottish.
Uh-oh.
How is Thisbe pronounced?
Thanks about Ela/Elah - E-la is pretty out there.

I would instinctively pronounce Thisbe TIZ-bee, and that's how it seems to be being said in the soundbite here: http://www.answers.com/topic/thisbe
However, the pronunciation guide on the same page seems to say THIZ-bee.
I would automatically say it TIZ-bee out loud, but would hear THIZ-bee in my head, so it's a confusing one for me!
FWIW, I hear 'frisbee' as much as 'thistle' lol.

Whew, I'm okay.
I always said it THIZ-bee, but when you said counter-intuitive I figured I had it wrong.
