[Opinions] Wdyto Ryker?
What do you think of this name? The type of person you picture? Do you find it to be a name that a young boy could grow into?

does it remind anyone else of Reich, as in Hitler's Third Reich?

I like it, but I know a lot of people think of the prison.

It sounds like the kind of name chosen by a father who is overcompensating...I don't like boy names that seem to be slathered in testosterone.

I really dislike it, sorry. It just seems like a kree8tif mess to me (since I don't have the Star Trek association). It's trendy and has no meaning or substance.

Thanks for all the responses everyone! My husband loves this name....We are due in a few weeks and he is stuck on this name. Our last name is a three syllable Polish name like Palkorski and I am looking for a short one or two syllable name to join sisters Sage and Zola....I think we are down to -Ryker
Larz
Beckett (beck)
Witt

I actually knew a Ryker who was several years older than me, so he would now be in his mid-30's. He passed away about 10 years ago in an accident. I always loved the name though. He was an amazing person.

I like Witt the best, then Larz. Ryker and Beckett are very surnamey and have weird associations (one Sci-Fi and the other a British MP).

It sort of seems like a brand of bike, or toys or something. That and the Star Trek guy.

Makes me think of Waco Reicher (prn. the same was as Ryker), and that's a bad thing. It's a really bad neighborhood in Waco, Texas.

It's a prison or a Star Trek captain . . .Yeah, they're both spelled with an 'i' not a 'y', but the sound is the same. Ryker looks awkward, ugly, far too surnameish, and has one very unpleasant and one very sci-fi-fanatic association. I can't see it on anyone at all, and definitely not a young boy.

yeah, same here...I think of a guy who looks like the Star Trek Captain. Although usually I heard more about Commander Riker.

Lol, very much agreeExcept I could see it on a little boy whose parent's met at a Star Trek convention. It'd be better than Warf and Data.
Or as a little brother to SingSing and San Quentin and Al (short for Alcatraz).

Dislike it to tell the truth. It just looks as a surname to me.

As a Law & Order fan, I immediately think of Rikers Island ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rikers ) and that's not a good thing. So, my immediate thought is something along the same lines like Ryder / Rider, but to be perfectly honest neither one of those names is my cup of tea. I don't particularly think that they age well.
