It has been a busy six years for the Thompson family. Wil has been very busy at work and getting involved with everyone else's problems every day has begun to take its toll on him. Lydia too has been busy--taking care of all the kids--and an additional three. Lydia's sister, a single mother, was diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago. She left her three children to Lydia's care, saying that Lydia could be a better mother than anyone else could to them. Lydia's sister Emma passed away eight months ago. Wil and Lydia have just finished the paperwork for adopting Erica Taylor, Julia Evelyn, and Jonah Gareth.
Erica is seventeen. She is a rebel if you ever saw one. She hates to conform to any sort of rules and has her mind set on disobeying everything that Wil and Lydia say to her. She would be a junior in high school, but she dropped out a year and a half ago. Much of the time she is not at home and often gets back very late and usually of questionable sobriety. Two weeks ago, Lydia began to notice that Erica seemed to be getting more withdrawn and moody. She confronted her about it and Erica admitted that she was pregnant. She doesn't know who the father is and doesn't know what to name the baby yet. She considered getting an abortion, but Wil and Lydia absolutely forbid it. For once, Erica complied with their wishes. Lydia is trying to teach Erica how to be a good mother, but has a feeling that things won't turn out too well for her niece. Erica has come up with some names for her baby (who is due in six months): Lyra Simone, Moira Araceli, Octavia Violet, Connor Alaric, Alec Laurence, or Marcos Jace.
Jack is sixteen now. He is still as determined as ever to watch out for his siblings and hasn't gone through that rebellious teenage boy phase yet. He is very interested in law enforcement and wants to seek justice for people. He has decided that he wants to work as a police officer or as a government agent--something along those lines.
Julia is fifteen. Unlike her sister Erica, Julia is very "normal" and unobtrusive. She is just about average in everything, though she likes helping Lydia out around the house. She has taken her mother's death very hard and has been meeting with a therapist to get through her feelings. Julia is in tenth grade. She dreams of becoming a nurse.
Lijah is thirteen. He is very outgoing and rambunctious. He has recently begun taking guitar lessons and wants to start a band wih some of his buddies. Lijah doesn't necessarily like the idea of his cousins living with him, but is getting better about it. He does like having Jonah around to play with all the time. Lijah is in seventh grade and has been doing well so far. He has no clue what he wants to do career-wise.
Jonah is twelve. He was never particularly close to his sisters, and pretty much ignores them now--prefering to hang out with Lijah. Jonah is rather introverted and covers up a lot of his true feelings. He is in sixth grade and is quite popular among his friends, but relatively unknown to everyone else. He wants to become a monk...for whatever odd reason.
Tori and Carly are eleven. They are very similar (and being identical doesn't help matters any). Tori dreams of becoming an actress and tries out for every play she can get her hands on. Carly, on the other hand, wants to be a novelist and spends a lot of time writing and dreaming up plots for her stories. Other than their dreams of the future, the girls are inseperable. They are never found far apart and hang out with the same friends. They are in sixth grade as well.
Isaiah is nine. He is in third grade and progressing nicely. He is probably the most scholarly of all the kids. He enjoys reading, writing, and science experiments. He also loves being outside and spends much of his time in a treehouse that he, Jude, and Wil built last summer.
Jude is seven. He follows Isaiah around like a shadow. Jude is very athletic and loves to run around and play. He is into all kinds of sports and is trying out soccer and baseball for the first time this year. Jude is in first grade.
Heather is six. She loves being the baby of the family and never fails to remind everyone else of that fact. She is spoiled beyond belief and is prone to throwing tantrums if she doesn't get something that she wants. Heather is in first grade, but avoids Jude like the plague. They are sociable enough at home, but turn into horrid monsters out in public. Heather has lots of friends and invites them over all the time (even if she doesn't have permission).
I used the "one of your kids is expecting" and "you adopted a relative's children" events as well as sort of twisting off of the "your oldest wants to become a CIA agent" one.
Also, a sidenote--you've probably seen my little post already, but I'll be out of town for about two weeks coming up. I'll try and catch up when I get back.
