Canadian blogger and science fiction author Cory Doctorow, 36, and his partner Alice Taylor have welcomed their first child together. Daughter Poesy Emmeline Fibonacci Nautilus Taylor Doctorow was born February 3rd at their London home, weighing in at 9 lbs and 6 oz.
He also gives explanations for the names: Poesy is after Renaissance poet Philip Sidney's work Defense on Poesie (1595); Emmeline after Emmeline Pankhurst, one of the founders of the womens' rights' movement in England; Fibonacci after the famous sequence of numbers; and Nautilus after the fictional submarine of Captain Nemo in Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870).
Don't know who they are, but the anme was just too... don't even have a name for this, this... shakes head.

I like it. Yes it's long, but the names have meaning to the parents and that matters more. I probably would have left out one of the surnames for the sound (it has a decent flow as PEFNT or PEFND, but not PEFNTD) but again, that's something where the importance matters more. Poesy is a bit cutesy, Emmeline is lovely, Fibonacci is wonderful (and if they can use a mathematician, I can get away with a physicist). Nautilus is not flattering but I like the reference.

Way too many names...
The names themselves could grow on me. But why so many? Even with meaning attached, including so many names almost detracts from the meanings.

I like that her name has so much meaning to them. Poesy Emmeline is very sweet, maybe a bit too sweet for me, but it's not my kid and it's still a good sounding combo. maybe there's more of a story to Fibonacci. does her name follow the rules of the sequence; does Poesy + Emmeline = Fibonacci; does Emmeline + Fibonacci = Nautilus?
I think it's poetic that, at least in this case, Cory + Alice = Poesy.

I agree that I don't mind it because of the meaning attached.
That is something that my hubby would do...write in some sort of code into the name.

Same here; the meanings behind the names are sweet, IMO.
I'd rather see an unconventional (note: not horrid, though) name that means the world to the parents than a "good" name that they just liked because it's purty. But that's just me.

One of the most awful names ever ever ever! Maybe even the most awful!
I was shocked when I saw somewhere a nickname suggestion "Poet", but Poesy gets even more terrible! Emmeline is hideous and over-cute, yuck! Both Fibonacci and Nautilus are ridiculous as names, I think I don't need to explain, why. I dislike doubble middle names, so how should I react when I see five names in a combo?
I was shocked when I saw somewhere a nickname suggestion "Poet", but Poesy gets even more terrible! Emmeline is hideous and over-cute, yuck! This turned up on Sabrina Fair's random ba's just yesterday. Had no idea the people were famous, never heard of them. Yuck.

If you just took out Fibonacci and Nautilus, I'd think it was fine. Poesy isn't quite my style, but fine nonetheless.

Poesy... It's like someone's describing something that's very dark and Edgar Allen Poe-sy.
Emmeline is awful, but it's pretty much the best one in the entire group.
Fibonacci and Nautilus... Disgusting.
Taylor... Though it's the mother's maiden name, it really doesn't fit at all in the group. It sticks out like a trendy sore thumb (along with Emmeline).
I imagine many, many years of teasing and angst will result from this name...

I think that all those middlenames are fine. Emmeline (or even Taylor) should have been the first name, though. Really, even if you've got three middles and two lasts, who ever introduces themselves using thier full name? I mean, you almost never get to say your full name, so having little nods in your middle name to great people your parents just want you to emulate is kind of cool in the sense that it doesn't really affect you ever, but you know it's there. Plus, she'll totally win all those "My middle name is worse than yours" conversations that kids have in high school. ^_^
But yeah, Emmeline > Poesy.

Posey is a name I prefer as a nickname for Josephine, but as Poesy, it's an English word in its own right (a poem of a collection of poems), and I think it's pretty sweet. Emmeline is perfectly fine. Given that he's a sci-fi author, Nautilus is a clear nod to Jules Verne, a more than worthy namesake, and I think Fibonacci is cool in a math-geek kind of way.

I can't say that I like any of it. Emmeline is nice, but everything else is just too much. Three MNs plus a double surname is just too much of a mouthful IMO.
