Pronounced heh-LAYN. What do you think of it?
I first ran across it in a midgrade fantasy novel series when I was in fourth grade or so, but it has history of use outside of a now-rather-forgotten set of books. :) It's always stuck with me, and mentioning it to Siri has put it back in my mind.
Today, I prefer it as a first name rather than a middle name. Any combo suggestions? I've come up with these so far:
Helaine Angeli (AHN-jeh-lee or AHN-geh-lee, "angels" in Latin)
Helaine Mercedes
Helaine Barbara
Helaine Stargazer
Helaine Ofelia (oh-FELL-ee-ah)
Helaine Renata
Helaine Reynalda
Oh, and I'm inclined to use the nickname Lain (and that's my preferred spelling), for the record.

I know you posted this awhile ago but I must reply. This was my granma's name. She was Helene Janice S. (pronounced Helaine Juh-niece) but later she legally changed it to Janice Helene (Jan). I really don't like either combo but I think both are good names. My favorite of your combos are Helaine Angeli, Helaine Mercedes, and
Helaine Stargazer.

I like Helaine or Helayne, which I've also seen on a book character.

Hmm.
I think it's pretty but it does have a bit of a trendy sound. Otherwise it's quite cool, it's making my list, actually.

Helaine Mercedes - Because I think of Pan's Labyrinth, I love this. She was such a strong, beautiful character.
Helaine Barbara - Again, no flow (Remember, I always start at the bottom. ;-)
Helaine Stargazer - No flow.
Helaine Ofelia (oh-FELL-ee-ah) - Pan's Labyrinth. :-D Pretty, not a favorite, though.
Helaine Renata - My favorite, especially because of Renata's meaning.
