[Opinions] How about you stop writing the accent on registration papers?
in reply to a message by Chloe McSwain
Then no one can call you that. It's not supposed to be there anyway.
And while you're at it, get your name fixed. Legally. I had a friend, Alex, whose birth cert. said "Axelandra" by accident. And you know what? No one ever called her Axel, because she didn't put it on her registration forms. And her mother recently legally changed it. If it bothers you so much, find a solution and stop whining.
Unless you're making this whole thing up?

I'm not whining!!! I am asking you hollow, narrow minded people for help!!! Thanks. And, that had to be embarrasing for her name to be "Axelandra". I can't write my name with the accent mark on registration papers because, take TCAP for example, when they scan my score card, the computer can't comprehend it. BUT, on my actual papers, I go by Chloe'. And you people STILL haven't answered my dang quesion!!! My question is THIS:
What do I tell the people who KNOW my name isn't Klo-ay?
What do I tell the people who KNOW my name isn't Klo-ay?
There's no need to call people names. Stop trolling, and stop whining.
I would just let those people call you Klo-ay if they want to. Who cares? I have an unusual surname, and some people say it incorrectly to be funny. I don't mind it, and if you do, I honestly think you're being too dramatic and overly sensitive.

Question
Why would you expect someone to help you after you just generalized them as "hollow, narrow-minded people"? And even if we are "hollow, narrow-minded people," then why are you asking us for advice?

I didn't mean that either. I was angry. Let me try to make it so you know where I'm coming from (I'm going to use your user name):
Some one calls you Irial. (eer-eal) you tell them it's Ariel. They continue to call you Irial. You keep correcting them. Finally they call you by your middle name (whatever it may be) and you tell them not to. They continue to do so.
NOW, do you understand what I'm getting at? I don't mean to be rude, but if you're going to slam, degrade, or harp on me, DON'T COMMENT PLEASE.

I wasn't degrading you. I asked you two simple questions that you refused to answer.
Yeah, I would be annoyed if they did that, but I wouldn't go ask people for advice how to tell them to not mispronounce my name. Pretty much all you need to say is, "Could you pronounce my name air-ee-uhl please?" I don't understand how you need to advice for that. Sometimes people choose to be irritating, or are just easily confused, so try to accept the fact that people won't always say your name correctly, and that's fine.

It's irritating how you are yelling at me for degrading you. I just asked you two simple questions, and now you're saying I'm rude. Did you ever consider that you could be being rude to me? I think that some people may be being more rude to you than they need to be, but I also think the same of you.

Tell them, "I understand that Chloé is the French form and is pronounced klo-AY, but you need to understand that my name is pronounced KLO-ee. Please." If you've explained clearly how your name is pronounced, it sounds like they're trying to be obnoxious and/or think you don't understand the rules of spelling and want to correct you. Tell them you do understand what an accent mark means, but you also didn't name yourself, and you don't need to be corrected on the pronounciation of your own name.
Try that, anyway. I am having a lot of trouble understanding why people who you're sure you've clearly explained your name to continue to say klo-AY.

I'll try it. Thanks. Yeah, I have trouble figuring it out too. The only people that get my name right are my mom, dad, brothers and sisters, and best friends and other family. Some people in my family call me "Klo-ay" just to tease me. But that's okay. I knwo they're joking, and KNOW how my name is pronounced, so that doesn't bother me.
