[Opinions] BA for a Teacher
My Creative Writing Teacher (he also teaches Science Fiction)and his wife welcomed their first child Saturday morning, a girl.Mackenzie Lynn. I'm assuming it's spelled that way, I haven't seen it written down. I'm really very annoyed with it though. I mean, he's a creative writing teacher, you'd think he'd have better ideas for names other than a surname for a first name and a filler middle name. And a few years from now, there will be 5 Mackenzie's in her kindergarten and they'll have to call her Mackenzie [last initial]. So... Mackenzie Z. Zee-Zee. :P Which is just awful. :[So. Thoughts on the combo, and have you ever been REALLY disappointed by someone's name choice?

Ugh :/ I always get really disappointed in my teachers' name choices. I'm going to PM you because I feel like ranting about it but I don't feel comfortable posting publicly.

Argh, that would be disappointing coming from someone with a background in language arts. I think the only name that disappointed me severely was when I found out a girl I had worked with had a baby named Nevaeh.
PS, I find Agathangelos as cool as you do. :-)

Maybe he's tired of being creative? =PI think it's a good name, good flow etc but I don't like the names. I used to like Mackenzie but it's too popular now so I prefer just Kenzie. And yes I've been very dissappinted in someone's name choice, my mother's cousin. They had been trying for a baby for 10 years or something and when she finally got pregnant and had a little girl they named her Engla (Cecilia and something more for her middlename). Engla/Ängla is often given to dead babies here so it just seems wrong and to CUTE! I can't picture an adult with that name.

It's not too bad. It could be worse.

I mean, it's generic and kind of popular, but I wouldn't be disappointed because he's a creative writing teacher. One or both of the names could be family names. I've always like Mackenzie for a boy, but with its popularity, my interest in it has waned. The only time I'd really be disappointed in someone's name choice would be if it's deliberately odd, like Audio Science or Apple. It's fine if that's what you want to call your child (even if it isn't my style), but at least give them a name that wouldn't stand out like a sore thumb in a professional environment!

It's just... sad. Very, very sad.
I can't remember being terribly put off by any given name. But I once met a young girl named Sara, middle name Lee. It just seemed wrong. And you're wrong-- I think Agathangelos rocks.

If you don't know the persons you don't know their reasons for giving their child a certain name. Maybe there is a good reason here.I hav been dissapointed several times by new babies names, heres a few times just of the top of my head.A male relative of mine named his babyboy Simon, the name is perfectly ok but... baby Simon already has two onkels and a cousin named Simon! (So my realtives two sisters are both married to Simons, and on the other side baby-Simons mothers sister has a son named Simon) In addition to this the family in question are already litterd with un-original names. There are 2 Tom, 2 George, 2 Elsie, a Cathrine, a Cathy and a Kate, 2 Lisa 1 Elizabeth and 1 Beth. One of my closest friends named her kids Emma and Liam, Idon't particualy care for any of those names but on top of that they are easily some of the most common names amongst our peers (Emma) and their children (Liam).
