Most people I know use some form of their initials or their surnames as a nickname. I'm "HC Beez" (see the post about Church), and one of my friends has the last name Caplinger, nickname Cappy.
Combining your first name and your middle and/or last names is fun, too.
You could pull a Voldemort. (Anagram.)
