I have been thinking about Emma- and -emma names lately. I think it is a bit of a double standard that Annabella is acceptable and Marianna is acceptable while Emmabella is ridiculous. I find both of them far too sickeningly sweet for my taste, but I don't really have a problem with either of them. Just because people haven't used Emmabella as much as Annabella, that doesn't mean it doesn't have the same etymological dignity.

I'd still prefer to see Isabella over Emmabella or Emma, though.

There are always double standards, as in for instance, Rose and Tulip are technically both flower names but Tulip would be considered ridiculous and certainly not Rose. Names with a long history of use are going to be better established.
Anyway, I agree that Annabella is almost as sappy as Emmabella.
