David got a a big sum in damages, he had a family and a job. But then he lost his job, he invested his money unwisely and left his family.
But the fact that his twin brother also committed suicide shows that the family just could not cope. The brothers were not even close.
But plastic surgery was not as advanced in those times, so I can see why they though "changing him into a girl" was the best thing to do.
Personally I can't see why parents cicumcise their sons (unless they have strong religious reasons as Jews or Muslims). Why take the risk? Why fix something that isn't broken?
