That's so funny
that you call Lottie pretentious. I love it and think it sounds very "homey" and "down to earth." But then people say a lot of my names sound pretentious.

I guess here in England the name would be stereotyped as belonging to a spoilt upper class girl. So for somebody to want to give their child that name would be as if they were trying to emulate and convey themselves as upper class.

In my part of England (north east) just about every other kid you meet is named Charlotte. It's far from pretentious. Whereabouts are you from?

I live in Manchester and know quite a number of Charlottes. The message was referring to the nickname Lottie :)
