this was my old neighbour's daughter's name. She wasn't the quietest of people and we became accustomed to hearing MAR-eey-am hollered at the poor kid several times a day.

I'm not sure how to represent the y sound, it was slight, not mar-ee-yam as in the vegetable, it was more separated than the ia in William.

Thank you, yes that's how I imagined it like as in William (I think you can also spell it Mariam).
