[Opinions] Helena
This is a name that I'm considering at the moment. I know that there are 2 different ways of pronouncing this, and am wondering what pronounciation you would automatically use?

HEL-len-uh or hel-LAY-nuh, I use both.
Hel-ee-na(m)
That's the way it's pronounced in Ireland.

HEL-en-uh
HEH-LEE-NA.
hay-LAY-nah:
Maybe heh-LAY-nah:
But at least definately the AH: sound at the end and the stress on the second syllable.

I think it's infinitely more beautiful this way than heh-LAY-na. Ugh. I can't stand it at all that way.

Very subtle differences between hel-LEYN-ah and he-LAY-nah, but they're there. :-)

but the first syllable isn't quite a short E sound. It's more of a cross between a short E and an A sound.

Well, before coming to the boards, I always pronounced it HEL-en-uh. But there was a point in time where lots on this board loved it (the same thing happened, and is happening again, with Adelaide) and most people pronounced it he-LAY-nuh, so I've retrained my brain to automatically say it that way.
HEL-en-uh
HEL-en-uh
When I see the name, HEL-en-a usually comes to mind first.
he-LEN-uh

I like hel-lee-nah.
he-LAY-na. Beautiful name!
I pronounce it He-lay-na.
There are actually at least 3 prn... He-lee-na, He-lay-na, and Hel-en-uh [like Helen with an A at the end]

Aren't ther 3 ways of prn it? Hel-ay-na, Hel-ee-na and Hel-en-a. I like the Hel-ay-na prn best, but the only Helena I know prns it Hel-ee-na.
Hel-ay-nuh. I think that's the prettier pronunciation, in my opinion.
