That's the thing
It really does have a very nice sound, and is really quite similar to other names in etymological characteristics (beginning being a derivative of Mary, ending in "ian"), but I just can't get over the geography connection. It's almost a shame, because it really could be a lovely name.

I like the geography connection
I don't much care for the sound of Meridian, but I like the Prime Meridian connection.
I'm partial to names of rivers and geographical features, though:-)

Oh man so do I, believe me. Go check out my GP list in my profile (non-linked names). It's filled with country and city names, albeit very obscure ones. Like Damascus, Sarajevo and Zurich. But I tend to connect those with culture, though. I'm really not that wild about names like River, Mountain, Ocean, etc., though. They just bother me. Not sure why. But man do I love Aegean as a name! =P
