I like it so long as the pronunciation is right.

It's okay when you are Italian and have and Italian last name. I think the name is actually really really common in Italy. It doesn't work with an English last name and living in Europe the name sounds quite boring to me. I don't know but it's just soooooooo Italian so if you are not Italian it just seems kind of weird. It's kind of like Jose or Juan which are really popular in Spain and kind of THE traditional Spanish names so using them when you're not Spanish seems weird.

I encountered an adorable Giancarlo (7) at the library several days ago.

*raises hand* One of those was mine - it was my friend Giancarlo, whom I met in France. (But is actually living in Virginia, USA and is of Italian, Dominican, and Venezuelan descent.) I like it, but would never actually use it. It's too ethnic for me.
