Help[Opinions] Caddy
I heard this name today...I assume its a nickname for something longer but I really liked it. I thought it sounded sweet and cute, and it reminds me of golf(which I like I suppose). Anyways what do you think of Caddy as a nn for a longer "C" name?

Caddy makes me think of annoying people who carry golf clubs, and especially that hideous movie starring the overrated Shia LaBeouf.

It reminds me of Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury. Not really a bad thing, just an association.
I think it was short of Caroline in the book, but even if not in the book, I don't see why not in real life. I saw a Carrie for Catherine once. NNs are flexible.

In Faulkner's "The Sound of the Fury" it's used as a nn for Candace. I don't like it very much, partly because I associate it with Faulkner's character, as well as with golf caddies and , worse, supermarket caddies.

Her name is actually just Cady. :) But to the OP, upon a *cad* name search, Arcadia and Leocadia are possibilities. I also agree with Cadence and Candace.

My great-aunt Caroline was known as Cad.
Caddy's better, though I'm not thrilled about calling a beautiful name after a tea container!

I prefer it spelled Caddie, like Caddie Woodlawn.
I think that Tippins' suggestion of Candace as a full name is a great idea. Others that could work (though I don't necessarily advocate them all):
Catherine and variants
Cadence
Caroline and variants (this is Caddie Woodlawn's given name in the book)
Arcadia
Claudine
Calanthia
Cardea
Caridad
Carreen
Cassandra
Clematis

It sounds cute, but I think of the word "catty", which isn't the best association. I have heard of Caddy used as a NN for Catherine before.

I should read it...that's Faulkner right? I love him. Do you like Caddy better than Rose? I'm a bit torn between them

There's no need you can't have more than one favorite. I love Rose and Caddy esp as sisters. Caddy is probably more my style because I favor snappy nicknames. But as a full name I like Rose better. There is something about Candace nn Caddy though, the elegance of -ce at the end of Candace and the gentle elegant feel of it (I know it's supposed to be trashy but I really don't get that from it all) and then such an effective and snappy summary in Caddy
