[Opinions] Aryan?
Could Aryan work as a name for a boy? What do you think?
Replies
No. It calls to mind white supremacy.
of course
If his parents are white supremacists/neonazis.

This is one of those names with a big culture clash.
It's going to seem very unfortunate to most people in North America and Europe because of its associations with the Nazis and more recent White Supremacist groups.
But it is not only well-used in India but seems to be becoming more popular both there and with Hindu parents in the United States. Aryan has been among the top 1000 names for boys in the USA since 2002, and has been rising in use every year.
It is getting a lot of support from Bollywood, the Hindi language movie version of Hollywood. There was a big Bollywood film titled Aryan in 2006 where the title character was a boxer, and Aryan Vaid is himself a very good looking Bollywood actor:

So it's one of those names that will be jarring for many people to hear, but something we will have to get used to as part of modern ethnic and cultural diversity.

I like it. It's different and I know about different. Look at my name.
Who thinks about peoples race, there's to much going on in the world
to think about someones race. Only racist, closed minded people would
think like that. It's a good name for a boy. It makes me think about
the solar system.

Well, Aryan is somewhat common Indian name, so if you are of Indian descent or live in India I could see it. Anyone else should avoid it.
Could I sell you Arian?
It's got three submissions, all with a similar meaning. And less racism is connected to it.
Plus, it's got a saint as a listed namesake.

Not really, but...
I do love the sound of it. Without the racist undertones, I would approve of it. With them - no.

I must say I love the sound of Ariana, which in Italian has the same implications than Aryan
Exactly what I was gonna say!
Is this a joke?
Absolutely not
I have to admit that the only thing I think of when I hear, "Aryan," is Hitler and his campaign of hatred. The "Aryan race" is a term used by many white supremacists to encourage and foster hate and prejudice. You may want to seriously weigh the connotations before you make your decision.
I absolutely agree with the posters before, that the Nazi association makes the name quite unusable. I'm not even sure it'd be allowed to name a child Aryan here in Germany.
I know one guy named Aryan, and he's Indian and it works for him. However I think that if it wasn't an ethnic name then it is too closely associated with Nazi Germany to be okay.
Yes, if you want people to think his parents are Nazis. I'm sorry but I just think it's way too closely associated with Nazis, Hitler etc. Not a good name imo.
Totally agree.
"Aryan race" is the first thing that comes to my mind.
