I have a friend named Shaylee. She's 16. Her middle name is Ann or Anne.
I think it's trendy and just a combination of random sounds, honestly. It's just... bleh. Sheila would be better, I think. And if you changed the spelling of Ashley to Ashlie (not that I'd like to see that happen on a real person,) Sheila and Ashlie have all of the same letters, which could be a connection you may be looking for.
