[Opinions] Gianni or Johnnie?
We are planning to name a daughter after my father. His name is John Albert. I love the name John, but it is too common for a boy, and I've always hated the name Albert. We've picked another name for a boy: Asher Theophilus, with Theophilus being an old family name on my side going back a few centuries. So for a girl, she'll be Gianna Albertine. My husband is Italian, and he really likes the name Gianna, and I strongly dislike the name Alberta, but love Albertine (I also found out Albertine is a favorite literary character of my father's from Proust), so this is how we arrived at this combination. The question is, we want to call her Johnnie for short (Johnnie Albertine, after my father John Albert), but we haven't decided on the spelling of the diminutive. Gianni to follow the traditional Italian name that would be her full name, or Johnnie. Both would be pronounced the same.Opinions, please?
Thanks in advance,
Rebecca
