I don't love Jane but I like it much better than Joan. Like you, I just prefer the long 'a' sound. And I suppose I prefer the Jane spelling. It looks so neat, doesn't it? Finally, Janie is darling while Joanie doesn't do much for me (too many "Happy Days" reruns?).
